What is HAS?
Difficulty with home maintenance, repairs and modifications have often been identified as major housing related problems for older people and people of any age with a disability. The State Government’s response to these needs has been the introduction of the Home Assist Secure (HAS) program. HAS aims to improve the safety, independence and quality of life for people 60 years and over and people of any age with a disability, who wish to remain living in their own homes.
This program provides information, referral and in some cases depending on eligibility and need, subsidised assistance with essential home maintenance, security and minor modifications. The program is funded by the Queensland Department of Communities, Housing and Homelessness Services.

Free information is available about home maintenance, fall prevention, repairs, minor modifications and home security. Service staff can also refer and assist, if necessary, with employing tradespeople, assessing jobs or planning future work.
Staff trained by the Queensland Police Crime Prevention Unit can inspect your home to help you decide on security related repairs and installations.
HAS can provide subsidised assistance by contributing to the labour costs involved for minor essential home maintenance, repairs, modifications and security which relate to health, safety and security of eligible clients. Subsidy is not provided for beautifications or upgrades in the home.
